The castle now stands in ruins
Before it are sad eyes, filled with tears

Almost eighty years ago
Brick by brick a house was built
So much of laughter
Joy abounded
Many tears and also times of loss
It has seen it all
Three generations, abundant lives

Twenty seven years ago a little waked in
This was to be her home
It was not just a home
It was her castle
This place was special
It was the only place she called home
The orphanage was no home

So many memories, some sweet, some bitter
Here is where bond between father and daughter grew
This was the place where she said her goodbyes as he lay still and cold in a coffin
It was here that she ran to and fro from her loving fathers arms
Birthdays, family gatherings, many treasured times and wonderful memories

Now she stands before her home
Her castle which is no longer hers to call her own
Heavy is the burden on her heart
Heavy is the burden on her soul
Unknown men walk in and out through her safe place
Brick by brick they destroy
Watching, she feels violated
The castle now stands in ruins
Before it are sad eyes, filled with tears

I sat there last Sunday
The house was empty
Except for bits of cutlery lying there on the floor beside me

Many are the memories that I have of that home
As I sat there, everything came rushing
One after the other, memories flooded my head

I saw myself in my room
Getting out of my bed, dancing and singing
My mother came in and joined me

Sitting in the front veranda
Sitting on my father’s lap
We played
We laughed
We hugged

Christmas dinners with the family
A dinning table for almost twenty
Laid out majestically
My father at the head
And me at the tail!

Birthdays, parties when I was yonger
Gatherings when older
So many smiles
So many sounds of laughter
Smiling faces
Spoke of happy times and a happy family

Running around the house
Through one room to another
Getting lost at times
Small feet had a long way to run

Frisbees thrown in the garden
Father beside
An excited dog doing the chasing

Power cuts
Candle light dinners outside
My dad, mum and me
And a little doggie

As a bride I sat in my parents room
Veil before me
Ready to step into a new phase in my life
Ready for a change
A beautiful union

But now, this change
Bringing mainly tears
Tear after tear

Many memories
Some hard some great
But each memory one that I now hand on to

As I sat there in that almost empty house Sunday night
Tears ran freely
Questions were raised to God
Questions of why
A sense of helplessness prevailed around me
A sense of sadness
A sense of losing a part of me

Leaving the home close to midnight
I knew it was the last time that I would see it
My home
My memories
My place with my father

The home is no longer ours
Never will I walk those halls
Never will I run through the rooms
Never will I have a chance to live in a house where I built many dreams and hopes
In my heart God says there is a reason
I am trying my best to understand
I know there is a plan
I know there is a reason
But still there are tears in my eyes

My father was not with me this day, he was not there to walk me down the aisle. But my mother took on that duty. :)

Though my father was not there, I know my heavenly father was right there next to us. Right through this day God was there. Now looking back I have tears as i think of my Father. But I have praise for my Heavenly Father who was with me and held my hand right through.

This day was amazing. Our families were present. Our friends were there. Everyone had smiles on thier faces. God shown through everyone. Hand shakes and hugs passed on an overflowing love. There were things that we were not sure about even the day before the wedding. But God heared our prayers. Wow.... did god hear them.

My gratitude and love goes out to everyone who shared that day with me.

My God is great and greatly to be praised.

What a year it has been.
So much to be thankful for

Child labour is a huge issue in our country, as well as many others. It is the right of each child to have a childhood, to be able to play, to eat, to laugh, to talk and to live. This poem speaks of one child among the thousand who life as slaves. Child workers are cheep, they do not demand, they are too afraid to talk. But that gives no one the right to abuse or take away rights that are thiers from birth.

Have you employed a child this day? If you have, remember, you were a child once too. If you were in this situation what would you think, feel, what would you do? Do not rob a child of thier childhood, of thier innocence. Love them and care for them, they are not your slave, but just a smaller YOU.

There are many children who don’t have fathers or mothers. There will be many who spend this Christmas alone. Lets share this Christmas with these children. Let’s go atleast to one home or orphanage where there are needy children and share the joy of Christmas with them. Will you take this challenge. I hope you will. Last Tuesday, I along with some of our Sunday School Teachers had a Christmas party with around 20 girls from 2 orphanages. The children's ages ranged from around 7 - 16. This was truly a blessed time for all of us. We had a puppet show for the children. We played with them, sang songs with them. It was an awesome day. Some of these children have parents. But they cannot look after them, due to financial reasons and also at times because they just don’t want to. Then there are those who don’t have anyone as well. Sharing that day with the children has deeply impacted me and also 3 of my friends. (we are all teachers at our Sunday School and we teach little ones between the years of 2 1/2 - 3) We have decided to do this on a more frequent basis, to go and share time with these little ones. We have decided to take time may be once or twice a quarter to go to both the homes and spend time with them.

I hope this Christmas you would do the same. Share it with another. You can share it with children or even with the elderly, who don’t have any one, who are in homes. Whoever it may be, share it with someone.

We are called to forgive aren’t we? But how many of us actually forgive and forget about it? Don't we forgive, but still remember the wrong that was done against us? I think of times like the fictional story that I have written below, and I wonder how one would forgive if that happened to them. Would I forgive, if I was in that situation? I don’t know to be honest. I know I would ask for one thing. That is the strength to be able to not only forgive but also forget, completely and move on.

The day has ended
It has been another of sadness
More children join the streets
Beautiful girls sell themselves to earn just another slice of bread

Mothers give birth to more children with no hope of sustaining them

What is true in this land of ours?
Have you thought about this?
Is the peace that we claim to have, real?
Is the love we claim to have for our Muslim, Tamil and Sinhala brothers true?
Is the hand that reaches out to help, doing so with ulterior motives or not? Is the reign of terror over? Are the people of this nation free to talk, free to walk and free to think?
Are the screams for justice real or are they just a mask or a voice for the season?
Which of these are true?

Today I came across pictures of people whose lives have been affected by the war which ended a few months ago. Each of them are those who have lost something because of the war. What I saw, what I see is … beyond words. What I feel within me… is not easy to put to words.

I sit here writing this, as many of my brothers and sisters are living in tents,
surrounded at times by their own waste.
I write this as mothers beat their breasts for children who have died or gone missing.
I write this as fathers walk the breath of the camps looking for their daughters.
I write this as millions lay in unmarked graves.
I write this as thousands upon thousands have vanished from this island.

What is true in this island?
Is the development that has boomed going to bring good lives to us all?
Are the people in the north and the east going to have new lives again?
Are they going to get houses to live in?
Will the camps close down?
Will people return home?

I am alive and I am citizen of this nation. That is true.
I believe in equality. That is true.
I believe in standing up for those who are been trodden upon
and standing up for those who have been silenced. That is true.

There is an anger that is brewing within me right now
An anger that I cannot completely explain
But I know what fires it
I know what birthed it
Hatred
Sacrifice of the innocent
Genocide
By lies and deceit
By abuse and rape
By injustice and power hungry souls

There are many like me in this nation.
Many, who want to give to those who have lost all,
give to those who see no hope. That is true.
Many who have the eager in their hearts to serve this country
To bring this country in a life time of true, pure peace
There are people

Children gathered from all around the country. Each had a story to tell. Each has a fear, sadness in their hearts. But each willing to be healed, willing to change and be a new creation. The children were from different backgrounds, different languages, different shapes and sizes. But they all love the Lord. They all believe and have faith in their heavenly father.

Each child a gift
A gift to the world
A gift to us
Us who were they protectors for three days
Each child
Mesmerized us
Their emotions, their feeling
Intertwined with ours
As praises raised to God
We leant
We say
The faith that was in their hearts
The faith and the love
They had for Christ
We heard their stories
Their concerns
We wept with them
As stories of hard times poured out
We laughed with them
As they shared jokes
We listened as they talked about the Lord
We held hands
As we bowed our heads in prayer
Each child is a gift
Each child a message
A message to us
That Jesus still loves
Jesus Still cares
Jesus knows us, each by name
From the tiniest hand to the biggest
Jesus will lead
Jesus will hold

Last weekend was a camp for children, who for their faith have been tormented and hurt by their societies. Gathering these children in one place, we sang with them, we leant leassons with them, we shared with them. And I know I speak for all of when I say, Jesus touched us through these children, just as He touched them through us.
